Christmas is magical when you're 3

Christmas really has been magical this year. Roman was so excited about everything. The music, the lights, the tree, and most of all...Santa! He started talking about Santa in November. He was fascinated by it all. He knew right away what he wanted. He used to have one of our old cameras that he would use, that is until one day he threw it, and that was the end of that camera. He has wanted a new camera ever since then. That was over the summer so as soon as he found out he could ask Santa for a toy, he decided he wanted a new camera. He did ask about a few others things. One day he asked me if Santa made iPods and brought them as gifts. But when he finally talked to Santa he told him he wanted a camera...with batteries...that worked.

Christmas Morning he was so excited to go downstairs and see if Santa had come. (We actually had to wake him up Christmas morning. It was one of the rare mornings that he slept in.)

He got down to the tree and the first question he asked was why Santa hadn't wrapped his present in HIS wrapping paper. I am a little crazy about presents. Each person has a wrapping paper so all their gifts are wrapped in that one paper so you can tell them apart, then I had them in little sections together.

He was so excited when he got it opened his present from Santa and he got EXACTLY what he asked for. A camera, with batteries and it really worked. He tried it out. Over and over and over again.

Another favorite gift was his Woody boots. He loves Toy Story right now, and he had outgrown his old cowboy boots. As soon as he had them unwrapped, he had to try them on. He wears them all the time!

One thing that we decided this year is that we didn't want to rush through presents. We wanted to have time to enjoy them. So when he unwrapped the boots, he could try them on, when he got the camera, we opened it up and let him use it. When he unwrapped one of Hudson's books, we took the time to read it. It was such a nice time with our little family.

After all the presents were unwrapped we went and checked out what Santa had left in our stockings. Roman had a hard time sitting still for a picture, he just wanted to dig in.

So as soon as the picture was taken that is just what he did. He barely stopped to look at things as he pulled them out of his stocking.

After he had everything out he took the time to play with every car, plane, firetruck, and begged to be able to eat the candy before breakfast. (We told him he needed breakfast first, but that didn't stop Spencer from eating nearly a dozen York peppermint patties before breakfast!)

Christmas really is the Most Wonderful time of the year...especially when you're three!

  1. That's funny about the wrapping paper. I tried to do the same thing this year. Glad Roman got his camera and got to enjoy each gift as he opened it. Spencer has good taste at least--York patties are one of my favorites!
