Roman was named after Spencer's grandpa. He has the same initials as Spencer's grandpa, and they share a middle (and last) name.
His grandpa's name was Ralph Carey and he passed away about 6 months before Roman was born. He was an interesting man. He made friends wherever he went. Chose a church based on the choir (That is until he was baptized into the LDS church when he moved to California) and had amazing stories to tell. He worked as a customs agent, loved his family, and made everyone feel welcome in his home.
My last memory of Spencer's grandpa was him sitting on a milk crate while a greenhouse was being built around him. He was healthy and laughing (just about a month before he died) telling people where to put things. I am glad that we have such a happy last memory of him.
