Sandy Balloon Festival

All week Roman has been looking forward to the balloon festival. We told him Friday night that he had to stay in bed or he wouldn't be able to go. Saturday morning Spencer went into Roman's bedroom at 6:15 and said "Roman do you want to go see the balloons?" He jumped out of bed happy and hurried to get dressed so we could go. We got there right at 6:30 and there was only one balloon inflated when we got there.

We watched them lay out and start to fill other balloons. We walked around the balloons again and watched as they were getting them set up.

Then Spencer overheard a conversation again that we once again were not going to see the balloons launch. He heard them say that it was the insurance company that won't let them launch in wind because it's too dangerous. There was a slight breeze, but just that breeze was making it hard for them to keep the balloons upright at times.

We wandered around watching them fill the balloons until they had them all lined up in rows.

Then Roman saw one that stopped him in his tracks. It was "his" balloon. (See the yellow and black one...that's it!)

Last year when we went to the balloon festival he saw this balloon. He claimed it. And when it launched (it was one of just 2 or 3 to launch last year) he started to cry because he wanted his balloon to come back. Well, he saw his balloon again, and was so excited.

Then...they had to put it down because they couldn't launch it and this is what happened....
So we stayed for a few more minutes and watched as they took the balloons down.

Kind of anticlimactic, but it was fun to see the balloons and we saw a few friends too. (It was fun seeing you Nate and Christa! Wish we'd taken a picture!)

  1. Looks like fun even if they didn't take off. We're sad we missed it.
